Generative AI Development to Optimize Investigative Journal

Cuestión Pública faced the challenge of enhancing their journalistic reach and relevance by reducing their dependency on traditional research methods. The goal was to identify and utilize emerging social trends and critical news items more effectively to align their investigative content with real-time public discourse

Cuestión Pública is an investigative journalism outlet known for its in-depth analysis and exposure of significant political and social issues in Colombia. Their work often involves complex research and data gathering to uncover truths that are crucial to public knowledge and discourse.

PulseUp implemented a two-phased AI project to transform Cuestión Pública’s content creation and research methodologies:

1. Phase 1: Development of an ML prototype using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and generative capabilities to understand and summarize existing database content, aiming to attract new audience segments.
2. Phase 2: Expansion of the initial model to include automated multimedia content generation and web crawling capabilities to monitor and analyze news about specific national figures and events continually.

The effectiveness of the AI development was measured through:

• Social Media Trend Alignment: Tracking the proportion of content that successfully leveraged current social trends.
• Content Adaptation Accuracy: Comparing AI-generated outputs against manual benchmarks to assess the precision and relevance of the automated content.

The AI-driven approach significantly optimized Cuestión Pública’s research and content dissemination processes:

• Development of over 750 new content leads tailored to current social media trends.
• A 42% reduction in content production costs.
• Improved alignment of investigative content with real-time social media trends.

The integration began with a comprehensive analysis of existing content and social media trends to identify alignment opportunities. Using AI technologies, including OpenAI’s GPT models and Google's Gemini for vectorization, Cuestión Pública could automate the generation of investigative content that resonates more effectively with contemporary issues and discussions. This process included:

• Real-time Trend Analysis: AI algorithms scanned social media platforms to gather trending topics and hashtags, integrating these insights with Cuestión Pública’s investigative themes to produce highly relevant content.
• Content Vectorization and RAG Technology: Utilizing Retrieval-Augmented Generation, the system enhanced its responses by incorporating external, real-time data into the generative process, ensuring content accuracy and context relevance.
• Automated Content Production: AI-generated summaries and multimedia content were crafted, significantly speeding up production times from hours to mere minutes, maintaining the unique tone and investigative depth Cuestión Pública is known for.
